Woodworking Tip: Using a Push Stick on a Table Saw

Working on a table saw can be very safe if you use the proper precautions. Inevitably you will need to rip narrow strips of lumber. As you push the wood through the blade, you fingers will get dangerously close to the blade. In order to prevent this dangerous situation, use a push stick. There are several types of push sticks available. You can even build your own or use a scrap piece of wood to push the small pieces past the blade. Generally, you simply want a v-groove at the end of the scrape wood to give you leverage as you push the wood past the blade.
